Those of you who have visited our greenhouses know that there is no shortage of plants around here!  Each year we house over 10,000 individual plant varieties and witness over 200,000 plants passing through our doors.  With stats like that, it’s hard to pick favourites because they are all so beautiful and unique.  There are some, however, that fly off the shelves quicker than we can say “petunia”!  That being said, here is a look at 3 of our “Annual” Fan Favourites, as well as some reasons why they are continual top contenders…

1) Petunia “Night Sky”

When it comes to these beauties a picture really is worth a thousand words.  With their dark blue-purple petals and bright white speckles, these blooms resemble a dreamy night sky.  This award-winning petunia is definitely a head turner which each flower being different from the next!

Lifecycle: Annual
Sun: Full sun, partial shade
Water: Keep soil consistently moist but not soggy.  Mildly drought tolerant.
Fertilizer: Water-soluble 20-20-20 every two weeks.
Attracts: Butterflies, hummingbirds, bees.

2) Salvia “Black & Bloom”

Often referred to as a “magnet for hummingbirds and butterflies” it’s no wonder Salvia “Black & Bloom” is a favourite among gardeners.  Their deep blue flowers contrast beautifully against their dark black stems.  Not to mention, they fairly low maintenance and are considered heat, drought and wind tolerant.

3) Celosia “Dragon’s Breath”

If you want drama, look no further than Celosia “Dragon’s Breath.” Their blazing plum flowers and striking green-red foliage makes a perfect choice for planters and landscapes alike.  The best part, these fiery beauties actually perform best under adverse garden conditions like heat, humidity and infrequent watering.
