Those of you who have shopped with us for a while are likely no stranger to Nonno’s lemons as they have been gracing our produce table for years now.  For all of our new friends out there, however, let us tell you a little story!  First off, you can read all about Nonno and how Anna’s Flowers came to be, here, if you would like.

Now onto the infamous lemons…

This story isn’t a very long one, but it is a good one.  The story begins about 30 years ago when Nonno first planted his lemon tree.  Back then there was nothing fancy about it, just a small little lemon tree planted inside a pretty regular pot.  However, before long the little lemon tree outgrew its modest-sized pot and Nonno planted it in the ground in a small greenhouse towards the back of the farm.  Before long, the tree had grown so large it took over the entire greenhouse – it really was a sight to see!

It was around this time that Nonno started to give lemons out to his regular customers.  You see, at this time the tree wasn’t producing a large number of lemons so he had to be a little selective.  Customers used to come into the store, look for Nonno, and he would disappear into the back greenhouse to pick them some beautifully ripened lemons!

Of course much has changed since then, Nonno is no longer with us but his lemon tree is thriving!  Since then, the small greenhouse has also been replaced with a much larger one and the (not so) little lemon tree is producing so many lemons, that being selective is no longer necessary.  Lemons are available in December to anyone who comes into our store and can be found on our produce table along with many other goodies.  If you haven’t tried one of Nonno’s lemons yet, we highly suggest you do!  His lemon tree is currently full of delicious yellow lemons and we would love to share them with you all.  The best part, there’s plenty to go around…
